About the festival
The Festival of Percussion Instruments is the international biennial organized by the Faculty of Music of the JAMU in Brno. It was founded in 2010 as a graduation project of Kamila Pětrašová.
At the festival, the upcoming generation of percussionists from Czech and foreign conservatories and academies gets the opportunity to show their talent. It is a unique event in Czechia thanks to its dramaturgy and aims to present percussion instruments as a peculiar element of contemporary music. This oldest and most extensive instrumental group permeates across various musical genres. That is why instruments such as timpani, drum set, marimba, djembe, bells, steel drums, vibraphone, temple blocks, gongs, timbales, bongos, cymbals, xylophone, darbukas, and various others are showcased during the festival performances.
Since its beginning in 2010, the festival’s highlights are workshops and concerts with leading international teachers and soloists. This year’s seventh edition will bring guests from France and Austria.
Accompanying events will traditionally be sales exhibitions of percussion instrument manufacturers and an exhibition on the 40th anniversary of the start of percussion teaching at JAMU.
Individual concerts, workshops, and exhibitions are open to students and professionals as well as to the general public. All will take place in the Theatre at Orlí from December 1 to 3, 2023.
